What are the symptoms of poison ivy?

The symtoms of poison ivy are: face becomes flushed and red and typically feels itchy and burning. Yellow or white pimples may appear, which may become pustules. In some cases the rash becomes permanent and leaves the skin red. If the nose is affected, particularly in older men, the skin becomes thickened, purple and swollen, a condition called rhinophyma.Who's affected?Up to one in ten people in the world may have poison ivy. Women are more often affected to than men. It more commonly appears between the ages of 20 and 55. It can run in families.What's the poison ivy treatment?
It isn't possible to prevent an attack, but those who are affected can learn to avoid common triggers. These include temperature changes, hot food and drink,caffeine,exposure to the sun or wind, alcohol, spicy foods and stress. When flare-ups occur they can be successfully treated with topical antibiotics.
Other treatments may be necessary for more severe causes of poison ivy and surgery or laser treatment can be used to treat rhinophyma. Although it's difficult to predict how long poison ivy will last, in time it does disappear.
